Pat Ireland from the St Helens
Area has been appointed Acting General Secretary by the National
Executive Committee. Pat is the first woman to hold this position
in the organisation and she said “I am honoured to be
asked to step into Bernard’s shoes and will work hard
to promote our organisation and its’ role within the
Labour movement”. Pat is also a member of the NEC as
our Conference Organiser and she is once again organising
the Labour Club’s Reception at the Labour Party Conference
in Manchester this year. Please click on the link below for

Pat is also active in the Labour Party and
is a member of the National Constitutional Committee.

Objects
- The NUL&SC encourages the social advancement
and political awareness of its members.
- The NUL&SC co-operates with the Labour
Party and the TUC on a wide range of issues, which affect
Clubs and their members.
- The NUL&SC provides such machinery as
is necessary to assist affiliated Clubs in all legal and
managerial matters.
- The NUL&SC promotes measures which are
advantageous to the welfare of Clubs and their members.
Constitution
- The NUL&SC is democratically controlled
by its member Clubs.
- Each Club is allocated to a geographical
Area Committee, to which it is entitled to appoint delegates
and attend meetings of mutual interest to Clubs.
- Each year the NUL&SC holds an Annual
Delegate Conference [ADC] to which Affiliated Clubs are
entitled to send Delegates. The policy and amendments to
rules are discussed at the ADC and the National Officers
elected.
- The governing body of the NUL&SC is
the National Executive Committee [NEC], members are elected
to the NEC by the geographical Area Committees.
